Decadent Dairy Free Black Forest Collagen Smoothies—a paleo, protein packed way to satisfy your sweet tooth and cake cravings without the sugar!
We couldn’t let EF Smoothie week end without another chocolate smoothie—I would never allow such a thing. I’ve loved getting to come up with so many creative smoothie recipes for you guys (while keeping fruit out of the equation for the most part.) but I have to say I’m looking forward to going back to cooking and photographing more solid foods. There are only so many ways to take a picture of a smoothie before you get a bit bored.
Confession real quick: I’ve never had a Black Forest cake. Or a Black Forest anything. But I mean… chocolate and cherries are a pretty basic flavor combo to master even if you’ve never had the cake. So i think it’s safe to say these are legit Black Forest smoothies, ya know?
Oh! I totally just realized today was Valentines Day. It’s not a day that’s really on my radar…like ever. But I’m so proud of myself for making a chocolate recipe for today. I’m really getting the hang of this blogging thing. I should quit my day job.

If you know, you know.
What you need to make Black Forest Collagen smoothies:
- Creamy coconut milk (or dairy free milk of choice)
- Frozen cherries – for that black-forest-esque taste!
- Frozen riced cauliflower – this helps thicken the smoothie without adding junk!
- Cocoa powder – again to help with the Black Forest taste
- A fresh, soft date (soak your date for a minute if its a bit dry)
- Collagen protein – I love Great Lakes or Vital Proteins!
- Ice cubes to thicken the smoothie and make it a cold treat!
- Whipped coconut cream chocolate chips, and cherries for topping because every day deserves a kick ass smoothie with presentation.
Tips for making these Black Forest Collagen smoothies:
- Buy frozen cherries so they’re already pitted. No one has time to pit their own cherries for days.
- Making some good homemade whipped cream to top these off with—I make mine with chilled coconut cream and it’s perfection.
- Make sure you’re using riced FROZEN cauliflower. Not fresh or cooked!
