Super Greens Collagen Smoothie (Paleo)
Hello hello! I’m back with another collagen smoothie for you guys. I had considered creating a cake recipe for you all since yesterday was my birthday, but true Moriah really just wants smoothies, tahini veggies, coffee, and a solid steak. So here we are with collagen smoothies because I don’t think I can get away with another tahini post or a plain coffee post, and I’m not putting out the effort to make steak.
My smoothie game has been strooooong this summer since it seems to only be getting hotter here in AZ and my AC seems to be working less and less. So as much as I love an omelet or a good stir fry, I’m not willing to add any more heat to my apartment unless absolutely necessary, so having a good list of protein smoothie recipes has been important, and I’v been trying to come up with a few that are veggie-packed since I’m not cooking my veggies as much.
Veggie Packed Green Smoothie
I’m not a huge fan of fruit smoothies (too much sugar and too sweet for me) but I am a huge fan of collagen shakes and veggie smoothies! this one has lots of fresh greens packed in, along with avocado for some healthy fats. I also added a green apple to the smoothie to add a bit of flavor and some added nutrients without going overboard on the sweet factor.
What you need to make a green paleo smoothie:
My favorite thing about these smoothies is how versatile they are. You can easily omit ginger or chia seeds if you don’t have them on hand, and you can change around the kind of milk depending on your preference! Don’t have spinach or kale? Just swap em out for other greens. Super easy peasy. Here’s the base of what you need, but feel free to customize it as you’d like:
Almond milk, or another non-dairy milk
Green apple chopped: this is what I used to sweeten the smoothie
Avocado: this adds a rich, silky texture and also lots of nutrients!
Fresh parsley or mint leaves: I like using one or the other in my smoothie–not necessarily both at the same time, but either one is delicious on its own!
Kale: Adds folate and other vitamins to the smoothie
Spinach: Adds iron and lots of other nutrients
Fresh ginger peeled
Lemon: adds sweetness and vitamin C
Collagen protein: Adds a protein boost! I use Great Lakes protein.
Chia Seeds: for fiber and omega-3s
Ice cubes
Tips for making Healthy Collagen Smoothies:
- You can use any dairy-free milk you’d like! I use coconut or almond milk (or cashew if I’m feeling generous) for my smoothies, but anything will work just fine.
- There is no sweetener in this smoothie but you can add honey or even monkfruit for a keto smoothie if you prefer.
- Use a high-quality unflavored collagen like Great Lakes or Vital Proteins.
- Add some fruit such as mango or orange if you’d like a sweeter smoothie without adding a sweetener.
- Add to a bowl with granola for a fun smoothie bowl.
